Fifteen minutes of power walking a day could increase your life expectancy by three more years. That’s according to guidelines issued Monday by the National Health Research Institute.
An institute researcher, Wen Chi-pang, said power-walking also helps prevent chronic diseases.
“If continued daily, or about 90 minutes a day, you will be able to live three more years," said Wang. "That’s because the [exercise] will not only reduce mortality rate but will also lower the chances of getting cancer, or having a stroke, heart attack or diabetes. Power-walking can prevent you from falling ill and can prevent diseases from worsening.”
The findings are based on his research on data tracking 500,000 Taiwanese people for 15 years.
Wen said power-walking is a very good choice for those who don’t do exercise at all as fifteen minutes of power-walking a day is equal to five minutes of running.
Wen suggested the public start at 15 minutes, and gradually increase to 30 minutes a day.
