The Taiwan External Trade and Development Council (TAITRA) has converted the second floor of the Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1 into a smart shared office space. The “TAI-ONE SPACE” opened Tuesday, with two companies already signed up to use the space.

TAI-ONE SPACE, punning on Taiwan itself, is now the largest single story office space in Taiwan, intended to meet the needs of start-ups, and small- to medium-sized enterprises for either short or long term, but is also available to digital nomads with a scale of 1 to 60 people. The space takes advantage of the convention center’s key location in Taipei’s commercial Xinyi District, and is easily accessible via public transportation. In addition to the 232 working seats, nearly half the floor is dedicated to public spaces including hot desks, flexible meeting rooms, phone booths, reception areas all free for tenant use. There is also a tea room, “LIN GAR B” named after the Taiwanese phrase for “drinking coffee”.

TAITRA Chairman James Huang (黃志芳) says that the purpose of the space is twofold – on one hand it can help more directly connect tenants to TAITRA’s resources, services, and experience. However the project also revitalises the World Trade Center Hall 1, injecting new energy, style and use into the landmark space.

Huang continued that the goal for the first year is to focus on promoting the service – adding that companies that sign up in the first year will get a discount of  two months free. Currently two companies have already signed two-year contracts, and will move in after Friday. While the current tenants are small six person teams, many more companies are already in the negotiations, and are likely to sign up, and move in consecutively– fulfilling the promise of a dynamic co-working space.
