Taiwan raises travel alert for 3 West African nations to highest level
The Ebola virus

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has raised the travel alert for three West African nations to the highest level in the wake of the Ebola outbreak there.

The ministry said Friday night that the travel alert for Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone has been upgraded to “red” under its four-color travel advisory system. This means Taiwanese nationals should avoid going to the three nations unless absolutely necessary.

According to the World Health Organization, the Ebola epidemic began in Guinea last December, and has spread mainly to the West African countries of Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Nigeria, where the number of Ebola cases on Monday stood at 1,711, including 932 deaths.
