Foreign ministry monitoring West Africa Ebola outbreak
The Ebola virus

The foreign ministry says it is continuing to monitor the outbreak of the Ebola virus currently affecting parts of West Africa.

Speaking Thursday, foreign ministry spokeswoman Anna Kao said that Taiwan’s representative office in Nigeria is in contact with Nigerian government agencies after a case of Ebola was recently confirmed in the country.

"Our representative office in Nigeria is maintaining close contact with Nigerian government agencies, including the Centers for Disease Control," said Kao.

"The office is also getting an understanding of what the Nigerian government is doing. The representative office in Nigeria is paying close attention to the situation and related information, and looking at how to respond in the future," she said.

Kao said that an "orange" level travel alert remains in place for Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Nigeria, the four countries affected by the Ebola outbreak so far. This means that Taiwanese nationals should avoid travel to these four countries unless absolutely necessary.
