Premier Jiang Yi-huah said on Tuesday that the central government will support whatever budget is needed to reconstruct Kaohsiung. That’s in the aftermath of gas explosions last Thursday which led to 28 deaths and over 300 injuries.
The Kaohsiung City Government estimates that it will take NT$1.9 billion (or nearly US$63.4 million) to reconstruct the areas damaged by the explosion. Premier Jiang said the central government would support Kaohsiung in its reconstruction.
"The Executive Yuan stands with the citizens of Kaohsiung. We will totally support the reconstruction of the disaster area in Kaohsiung. Regarding the Kaohsiung City Government estimate of NT$1.9 billion or whatever budget is needed for reconstruction, our principle is if there is any more money needed for Kaohsiung reconstruction efforts, the Executive Yuan will totally support that," said Jiang.
The premier said that electricity and water is expected to be restored to the disaster area on Tuesday. The army will continue to clean up the area and work to enable citizens to return to their normal lives.
