Vice Chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) Ma Shaw-chang, has sent his condolences to China after a magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck China’s Yunnan Province on Sunday.

The death toll has passed 300 and at least five are missing.

Ma sent his condolences to the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS), which is the Mainland counterpart of the SEF. The two organizations are semi-official bodies that handle cross-strait exchanges.

Ma asked ARATS to report any Taiwanese nationals affected by the disaster. The Tourism Bureau has confirmed that no Taiwanese tour groups were in the area affected by the earthquake. However, it is still unclear if any independent Taiwanese travelers were in the affected areas when the earthquake struck.
