The economics ministry is planning to represent Taiwanese solar energy product manufacturers to negotiate with the United States on the new anti-dumping tariffs.
Last week, the US Department of Commerce made a preliminary decision to impose anti-dumping tariffs on Taiwan-made solar cells and panels. It said these products are being sold at unfairly low prices in the US market. Taiwanese companies face anti-dumping duties of between 27% and 44%. The penalties are heavier than a previous market expectation of 10%-20% anti-dumping tariffs.
According to the economics ministry on Friday, Minister Chang Chia-juch will first send a written statement to the US Commerce Department to express his concerns over the penalties’ impact on Taiwanese solar businesses.
A final ruling on the anti-dumping issue will be made on Dec. 15.
