The foreign ministry says it hopes that Hungary and Slovakia will approve an agreement on a working holiday scheme soon. That’s the word from Deputy Director-General of the ministry’s European Affairs Department, Louis Huang, on Thursday.
Under the scheme, Hungary and Slovakia will each give working holiday visas to 100 Taiwanese nationals every year. In return, Taiwan will also give working holiday visas to 100 Hungarians and 100 Slovakians. The visas will be good for one year. Applications will be limited to citizens aged between 18 and 35.
Hungary and Slovakia were both expected to approve the agreement in June, but the legislatures of the two countries have not yet examined the agreement.
Huang said that hopefully, the Hungarian legislature will include the agreement in the agenda for its next session, which will begin in September.
Taiwan has signed similar agreements with nine other countries. Hungary and Slovakia will be the first countries in Central Europe to sign a working holiday agreement with Taiwan.
