The legislature approved the nominations of Chang Po-ya as the new president and Sun Ta-chuan as the new vice president of the Control Yuan on Tuesday. The Control Yuan is one of the five yuans that make up Taiwan’s five-branch government. Chang will be the first female president of the Control Yuan in its 83-year history.
Chang received 57 votes while Sun acquired 60. The two will become Control Yuan’s fifth president and vice president this Friday, August 1.
Chang was the former head of the Central Election Commission and Minister of the Interior. Sun was the former head of the Council for Indigenous Peoples.
