President calls for bipartisan cooperation at national economic conference
President Ma Ying-jeou

President Ma Ying-joeu has called on the ruling and opposition parties to work together for the good of the nation. Ma was speaking Monday at the National Conference on Economic and Trade Affairs.

The three-day conference held by the government took place in Taipei. It explored the issue of Taiwan’s economic development in a globalized world and strategies for regional economic integration and trade with China.

President Ma attended the conference on its closing day. He said over the past year, the cross-strait trade in services agreement has caused many misunderstandings and conflicts in our society. He hopes this national economic conference can bring people and ideas together to improve our country.

“Taiwan is facing great challenges but has so little resources. So we don’t have time to waste on partisan politics," said Ma. "Only by working together can we make sure that Taiwan has a way out. I hope the conclusions we’ve reached at the National Conference on Economic and Trade Affairs will serve as a foundation for us to pursue the maximum happiness for the people living on this land.”

President Ma also said that he has instructed the Cabinet to come up with action plans and suitable budgets to achieve the goals set at the conference.
