First Lady Chow Mei-ching is scheduled to lead a delegation to Japan later this week to promote an exhibition of artifacts from Taiwan’s National Palace Museum.

Six masterpieces of Chinese painting and calligraphy will be on display at the Tokyo National Museum, beginning August 5th.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, National Palace Museum Director Fung Ming-chu spoke on the event the first lady will attend.

“To promote the exhibition, the Tokyo National Museum will hold the event from 4:30 to 7:00 pm on August 4th," said Fung. "The museum’s director Zeniya Masami sent a letter to First lady Chow Mei-ching, inviting her to attend the event in her capacity as honorary chairwoman of the delegation. The first lady has already accepted the invitation.”

The exhibit is the first time the NPM has sent an exhibition abroad in Asia. National Palace Museum treasures have been exhibited in Austria, France, Germany and the US.

First Lady Chow Mei-ching is also the honorary chairwoman of a children’s choir comprised of indigenous children. Beginning on August 1st, the choir will hold three concerts in Tokyo to promote friendship between the two sides.
