Acting Deputy US Trade Representative Wendy Cutler says that more economies may be allowed to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) once the existing twelve parties have completed negotiations.

The TPP is a high-level free trade agreement currently being negotiated among 12 countries on the Pacific Rim.

Cutler was speaking at the Washington-based think tank, The Atlantic Council, on Wednesday. She said that several economies in the Asia-Pacific region have expressed interest in joining the TPP. She said that some of these economies have been proactive in taking steps to make the reforms required to join the TPP.

Cutler did not mention Taiwan specifically, but Taiwan is taking steps to integrate into the regional economy.
