Typhoon Matmo has brought fierce winds and downpours to Taiwan and left nine people injured.
On Tuesday Typhoon Matmo became the first storm to land on Taiwan this year. It left nine people injured, interrupted rail and air transportation, and left around 88,000 households without power.
The typhoon left Taiwan early Wednesday from the central county of Changhua. The Central Weather Bureau said as of 11am Wednesday, the typhoon was centered 180 kilometers south of the outlying Taiwanese island of Matsu. The bureau also said the typhoon will head to the Chinese province of Fujian in the afternoon.
It is expected that the land warning for Typhoon Matmo will be lifted by midnight. The Central Weather Bureau said that although the typhoon has left, its outer band may still bring torrential rain to central and southern Taiwan.
