Taiwan’s jobless rate rose to 3.92% in June, up 0.07 percentage points from the previous month. That’s the word from the government statistics office on Tuesday.
But after making seasonal adjustments, the statistics office found that the jobless rate stood at 3.97%, down 0.02 percentage points from May.
A statistics office official Lo Yi-ling Tuesday spoke about the trend.
“It’s mostly because those fresh out of college are looking for jobs,"said Lo.
"But the jobless rate hit a 14-year monthly low and is relatively less acute than before due to a steady economic recovery and more job opportunities provided by manufacturers.”
According to the statistics office, 456,000 people were out of a job in the first half of this year, which is a record low compared with the same period in the past six years.
From January to May, regular monthly earnings averaged about NT$38,000 or US$1,266. The figure shows that regular earnings have been gradually growing in recent years.
