Jeremy Lin shares about childhood during visit to Hsinchu
NBA player Jeremy Lin

NBA player Jeremy Lin shared about his childhood and perspectives on his life and career at a talk hosted by a church in Hsinchu on Monday.

Lin said that his parents were quite poor when they moved from Taiwan to the US. They couldn’t even afford to buy new shoes for Jeremy when he had holes in his shoes, and his classmates would laugh at him because of it. He said he couldn’t wait to grow up and make enough money to buy the things he wanted.

That time finally arrived, Lin said, when Linsanity started two years ago when he was playing for the New York Knicks. But he actually was not that happy during that winning streak. He said it was hard to be satisfied because he always wanted more. It was also very stressful and a burden to keep up the winning streak. Lin said that only when one can find true satisfaction can one have joy and peace.

After his sharing, a church elder gave Lin an Atayal warrior’s costume and many ministers surrounded him to pray for him. Lin gave them a big stuffed animal that he won at the Shilin Night Market and gave many of the youth some souvenirs.

About 600 people attended his speech. He also played basketball with 30 young people who were at the event.
