The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) says that there is no timetable for the conclusion of follow-up trade negotiations with Mainland China under the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA).

Speaking Thursday, MAC spokeswoman Wu Mei-hung said that although Taiwan hopes negotiations will be completed soon, Taiwan must win the best deal possible. She said that Taiwan hopes to win advantages in tariff reductions for petrochemicals, machine tools, automobiles, and flat panels. She also said that Taiwan hopes to prevent or delay the implementation of tariff reductions on textiles, pottery, and stone.

Wu also said that Taiwan and China will not be discussing a proposed trade in goods agreement during the sixth meeting of Cross-Strait Economic Cooperation Committee scheduled for August.
