The winning team

Taiwan is the third biggest winner at the 2014 International Mathematical Olympiad in South Africa.

At this year’s event, Taiwanese students won four gold and two bronze medals, making Taiwan the third biggest winner. The Ministry of Education said on Saturday that this is the best record since Taiwan started to participate in the competition in 1992.

In the individual category, Wu Po-sheng from Taipei Municipal Jianguo High School tied for first with a Chinese and an Australian student, recording a perfect score.

The International Mathematical Olympiad is an annual six-problem, 42-point mathematical competition for pre-collegiate students. A total of 560 students from 101 countries participated in this year’s event.
