A business match-making event between Taiwanese and Japanese companies has attracted 37 Japanese firms to Taipei. The event was held on Tuesday by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) as part of the government’s effort to boost the island’s exports.
TAITRA said that more than 380 one-on-one purchasing meetings were held between 300 companies from Taiwan and 37 from Japan. The Japanese companies showed interest in buying various machinery, auto parts, green products, hand tools, and electronic components.
Taiwan exported US$19.22 billion worth of products, or 6.29 percent of its total exports, to Japan in 2013. That makes Japan the fifth-largest export destination for goods from Taiwan, according to official statistics.
