The Central Weather Bureau says Typhoon Neoguri has increased in strength and will be closest to Taiwan on Monday and Tuesday.

The bureau said that early Monday morning the storm was centered some 910 kilometers southeast of Elaunbi, the southernmost tip of Taiwan. It was moving northwest towards Okinawa.

Forecasters say that Typhoon Neoguri, which is Korean for raccoon, will bring rain to northern and eastern Taiwan on Monday. That includes areas in Taipei, New Taipei City, Ilan, Hualien and Taitung.

The bureau says that boats operating in waters off the eastern coasts of Taiwan and the Philippines, as well as those in the waterway off the southern coast of Okinawa, must stay on the alert.
