The 2014 FIFA World Cup is expected to create no less than NT$10 million (about US$334,000) in sales to Taiwan-based textile maker Makalot.
Makalot makes jerseys using innovative fabrics. Market analysts said Saturday that Makalot has received orders from Italian brand FILA to make such jerseys.
Makalot is not the only Taiwanese textile maker that has been riding the waves of rising demand for innovative jerseys due to the World Cup. Analysts said other Taiwanese firms, including Far Eastern New Century Corporation and Eclat Textile Company have also benefitted from a boost in customer demand resulting from the World Cup.
Far Eastern New Century says it makes jerseys for the national teams of Brazil, the United States, England, Portugal, and Croatia. The jerseys are made of an innovative material recycled from plastic bottles.
