Legislature goes on break without vote on Control Yuan nominees
Don't come any closer!

The legislature has ended a three-week extra session without a vote on the list of Control Yuan nominees put forward by President Ma Ying-jeou.

The Control Yuan, along with the Examination Yuan, is one of the five branches of government in Taiwan. It is also the top government watchdog. Opposition parties believe the agency’s functions can be dealt with by other government branches. They are also unhappy about President Ma’s list of nominees, saying that the nominees are simply being rewarded with the positions as political favors.

The legislature was scheduled to put the list to a vote Friday. But lawmakers from the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) blocked the proceedings. They also questioned the credentials of several nominees.

Legislature President Wang Jin-pyng called a recess after he failed to persuade the DPP lawmakers to stop their obstruction of the proceedings.

The legislature will not go back into session until September.
