The Ministry of Labor is still considering whether or not it will discuss another raise to the minimum wage. That was the word from Labor Minister Pan Shih-wei on Friday.
As of July 1, the minimum wage in Taiwan has been increased to NT$19,273 (or about US$645) per month.
The Ministry of Labor usually discusses minimum wage hikes in committee during the third quarter. But according to a decision made last year, the committee only has to meet if the Consumer Price Index (CPI) goes up by 3%. Labor Minister Pan Shih-wei explains.
"Since the minimum wage was just adjusted on July 1, you need to look at consumer prices to see whether it needs to be adjusted again" said Pan. "This takes time to evaluate, and we have to get feedback from experts, which is something that we will do," he said.
