President Ma Ying-jeou met with the head of a Japanese delegation in Panama on Monday night, Taiwan Time.
The Japanese delegation, led by Eto Seishiro, a member of the House of Representatives in the Diet. His group is also in Panama to attend President-elect Juan Carlos Varela’s inauguration. Seishiro is also the chairman of the economic and foreign affairs commission.
During a 40-minute talk with President Ma, Seishiro said he hopes Taiwan and Japan can sign a Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Seishiro also promised to help Taiwan join the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP).
The Japanese politician also thanked Taiwan for offering aid following the devastating quake and tsunami that hit Japan in March, 2011.
