Premier Jiang Yi-huah says the government will take steps to make things easier for Chinese tourists travelling to Taiwan’s outlying islands. Jiang was speaking Monday during an inspection tour on the offshore island of Kinmen.
The Kinmen County Government is working to attract more Chinese tourists to the outlying islands, including not just Kinmen, but also Matsu and Penghu. Officials are calling for more flights and preferential treatment such as the granting of visas on arrival.
They are also hoping that changes can be made so that the daily limit on the total number of Chinese tourists visiting the main island of Taiwan will not apply to those who stay one night in Kinmen first.
Jiang said the central government supports granting Chinese tourists preferential visa treatment. He said the government will discuss the plans with the interior ministry, the national immigration agency and the tourism bureau.
The premier also said that Taiwan and China will work together to stop a monopoly of Chinese travel agencies from controlling the shopping and hotel bookings in Kinmen.
