President Ma Ying-jeou was set to depart for Panama late on Sunday to attend the inauguration of President-elect Juan Carlos Varela on July 1.

Ma will also visit El Salvador to meet with President Salvador Sanchez Ceren, who took office on June 1. Premier Jiang Yi-huah attended the inauguration as Ma's special envoy.

Both Panama and El Salvador have diplomatic ties with the Republic of China on Taiwan. This is Ma's tenth overseas trip since taking office in May 2008.

On his way back to Taiwan, Ma will stop on July 3 in San Francisco, where he will meet with Taiwanese expatriates before returning to Taiwan late on July 5.

Economics Minister Chang Chia-juch and Transportation Minister Yeh Kuang-shih will both travel as part of the 81-member delegation.
