St. Lucia’s energy minister James Fletcher has thanked Taiwan for its assistance in developing sources of sustainable energy.

Fletcher made the remarks at the opening ceremony of the National Energy Development Partner’s Forum on Tuesday, local time. Taiwan’s ambassador to St. Lucia, Chang Chi-ping, was in attendance.

Chang said that President Ma Ying-jeou and the St. Lucian Prime Minister signed an agreement last year guaranteeing Taiwanese support for the development of sustainable energy in St. Lucia.

Chang said that the assistance plan covers areas including improved energy efficiency in the public sector, LED street lighting, solar energy, biogas, and the development of a framework for sustainable energy. The plan will help St. Lucia lower its carbon emissions and protect the environment.
