Foreign ministry spokeswoman Anna Kao spoke to media Tuesday about the developments in the relationship between two diplomatic allies and Mainland China.

Kao said that the foreign ministry is paying attention to Sao Tomean president Manuel Pinto da Costa’s planned trip to China. Pinto has written to President Ma Ying-jeou, saying that he will make the trip in a private, unofficial capacity. But news that Pinto’s visit will include the Chinese capital, Beijing, has caused some concern.

Kao also said that relations between Taiwan and the Vatican remain stable even as the Vatican seeks high-level dialogue with China. Kao said that Taiwan and the Vatican will continue to work together on humanitarian projects and the promotion of peace.
