The new Penghu National Park is now open to the public. The park is made up of 4 islets in the outlying Penghu archipelago and is Taiwan’s ninth national park.
Measuring more than 35,000 hectares in area, the park boasts spectacular scenery, rich vegetation and animal life.
Interior Ministry official Liu Pei-tung said on Tuesday that visitors should try to have a minimal impact on the ecosystem there. He called on visitors to protect the park’s precious resources.
“If you visit the park now, [you’ll find] there is not enough water and electricity to meet tourists’ demands. Also, we are still working on effective waste management," said Liu.
"If you go, please take your own garbage with you when you leave.”
Liu said that the interior ministry will focus on managing the park’s resources and developing its public services.
