Asia’s largest tech trade show – Computex Taipei - opened Tuesday in Taipei. This year, the world’s second largest computer expo is looking at US$ 25 billion in business opportunities.
This year’s trade show highlights smart technology, touch screen displays, mobile computing, and smart wearable devices.
Vice President Wu Den-yih spoke at the opening about Taiwan’s tech industry. Taiwan’s semiconductor and wafer foundries have over two-thirds of the world’s market share, and Taiwan leads the world in packaging and testing. Taiwan is also training new talent to bring the world tech innovations.
“Our country has many bright young people. We hope that we will provide an even better environment for the ICT industry to shine on this land so that it can bring another economic miracle,” said Wu.
Economics minister Chang Chia-juch said that though some companies are struggling with the challenges of a freer market, Taiwan’s tech industry is still very competitive. He said Taiwan’s products need more opportunities to shine on the global stage.
