The city mayor of Solo, Indonesia Joko Widodo is welcoming Taiwanese investment in Indonesia. Widodo said that Jakarta especially welcomes hi-tech manufacturers. It takes only two months for Taiwanese companies to get an investment permit in Indonesia.
Taiwan’s Hon Hai Precision Industry Company has signed a letter of intent to invest US$1 billion in Jakarta in the next 3 to 5 years. Known globally as Foxconn, Hon Hai is the main assembler of Apple’s gadgets and the world’s biggest contract electronics manufacturer.
Widodo also said Taiwan is a good market for furniture. That’s because mayor and presidential hopeful Joko Widodo used to be in the furniture business.
Widodo was named the world’s third most outstanding city mayor in 2012. He is running for president of Indonesia.
