Official boasts transparency of Taiwan’s free economic pilot zones
National Development Council minister Kuan Chung-ming

National Development Council minister Kuan Chung-ming has boasted of the transparency of rules and regulations of Taiwan’s free economic pilot zones. Kuan was speaking on Thursday while receiving representatives of Japanese companies at a forum on the pilot zones.

Kuan said Japan is Taiwan’s second largest trading partner. He said he hopes that Japan will consider the pilot zones as an important investment destination. Kuan said Japanese companies are especially interested in the logistics industry and he hopes that they would consider Taiwan as a springboard into Asia.

Kuan said the rules and regulations of Taiwan’s pilot zones will be more transparent when compared with the rules of Shanghai’s Pilot Free Trade Zone.

“Taiwan’s rules and regulations are more transparent than China’s," said Kuan. "Costs are lower and companies will know exactly what we are doing and what they need to prepare. We are also more comprehensive in intellectual property protection. We are not competing in factors relating to production like land and workers. But we believe that we are superior when it comes to operations and regulations.”

Kuan said that Taiwan welcomes all countries that are interested in investing in its free economic pilot zones.
