Security to be increased near Presidential Office

The Presidential Office said that security will be increased around the area. That’s after a driver rammed a truck into the Presidential Office Building last month. The office’s spokesperson Lee Chia-fei explains:

“We are planning on a 120-meter security zone from Huaining Street to Chongqing South Road that is about one fourth of Ketagalan Boulevard. Between 10pm and 6am, traffic will be blocked off in that area," said Lee.

Lee said that there are few cars in that area at that time so it should not have an impact on traffic. But the security zone will help the Presidential Office coordinate with the National Security Bureau and the Taipei City Government.

The recent incident of a truck driving into the main gate of the Presidential Office Building has shown the need for increased security. Lee said that the presidential offices in the US, UK and South Korea are all under the strictest security.
