Taiwan’s unemployment rate has dropped below 4% for the first time since the 2008 global financial crisis. That’s the word from the Deputy Director of Taiwan’s statistics office, Lo Yi-ling, on Thursday.
The statistics office released its unemployment figures for April on Thursday. The latest figures show an unemployment rate of 3.91%. The wholesale and retail sectors added the most new jobs during last month.
According to the statistics office, Taiwan’s unemployment rate had been hovering above 4% since June 2008, just prior to the global financial crisis. But a larger number of job openings in both the public and private sectors during March contributed to the drop in unemployment.
However, the statistics office says that with graduation season approaching, it is difficult to say whether the unemployment rate will stay below 4% in the coming months.
