Ma: Taiwan to continue to provide assistance to Swaziland
President Ma meets new Swazi ambassador

President Ma Ying-jeou says Taiwan will continue to provide assistance to Swaziland.

Ma made the comments on Wednesday while receiving the new Swazi ambassador to Taiwan Thamie Dlamini and visiting Swazi Prime Minister Barnabas Sibusiso Dlamini.

President Ma said relations between Taiwan and Swaziland go back 46 years. He also said many bilateral cooperation projects have been successful.

"Currently, we are cooperating in projects covering medicine, rural electrification, and tap water," said Ma. "We’re also working on a biotechnology industrial park [in Swaziland], and our universities have launched courses to train students from our allies. […] We believe that all this will help strengthen bilateral ties," he said.

President Ma also thanked Swaziland for speaking up for Taiwan in front of the international community. Taiwan is excluded from most international organizations because of opposition from China. China sees Taiwan as part of its territory, even though the two sides have been ruled separately for more than 60 years.
