Ma to set up government youth advisory group

President Ma Ying-jeou said the government will set up a new youth advisory group to enable young people to contribute to public policy-making. Ma was speaking to university students at a press conference on the 6th anniversary of his first day in office.

Ma said that the government has five plans to help Taiwan’s youth. These include helping them learn skills that will be useful after graduation, supporting young entrepreneurs, making homes more affordable for young people, promoting free trade and giving young people opportunities to participate in government policy-making. Ma spoke to students at Taichung’s China Medical University about these plans:

"Let’s change Taiwan and create our future together. We hope that the establishment of a youth advisory group will inspire more dialogue and ideas between the government and young people," said Ma. "The government needs to be more creative and dynamic. It needs to have a sense of justice, and we need young people to participate."

Ma said that the group would welcome young people to bring their perspectives, passions and ideas to public policy making.
