Former President Lee Teng-hui to visit Japan

Former President Lee Teng-hui will be heading to Japan on Tuesday to pay respect to those who lost their lives in the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

The 92-year old Lee will embark on a six-day trip to Tokyo, Sendai and Fukushima. He will be speaking at the Diet Building on Wednesday and attend a banquet hosted by the Friends of Lee Teng-hui Association in Japan.

Lee will also give a speech at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan on Thursday and attend another banquet hosted by Japanese Diet members.

On Sunday, before heading home, Lee will visit the Millennium Hope Hills, a seaside park in Iwanuma City, Miyagi Prefecture to pay his respects to those who perished in the 2011 disaster that struck the region.

Lee served as Taiwan’s president from 1988 to 2000. His upcoming trip with be his seventh visit to Japan since he left office.
