EU lauds recent high-level meeting between Taiwan and China
High-level meeting

The European Union is praising a recent high-level meeting between Taiwan and China. It says it welcomes the peaceful development of cross-strait relations.

Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council Minister Andrew Hsia and his Chinese counterpart Zhang Zhijun met on the outlying Taiwanese island of Kinmen over the weekend. The two sides reached consensuses on six issues, including Chinese tourist stopovers in Taiwan, supply of Chinese water to Kinmen, and establishment of representative offices in each other’s territories.

On Monday the EU’s European External Action Service issued a statement to praise the meeting. The statement is the first one regarding cross-strait relations issued by the EU’s top diplomat Frederica Mogherini since she took office last November.
