Saturn to be at its brightest May 23
Brightest in a year

Stargazers now have a chance to see Saturn at the brightest it has been in the past year on Saturday, when it moves close to Earth.

According to the Taipei Astronomical Museum, this year's event will feature Saturn's rings, which are tilted 24 degrees wide and headed for a maximum of nearly 27 degrees in 2017, meaning they are almost as visible as they can ever be so far.

After sunset on Saturday, astronomy buffs can find Saturn in the southeastern sky. The planet will shine with a steady light and golden color. Saturn, the largest planet of the solar system, will remain visible through mid-November but will darken gradually.

The opposition of Saturn -- when the Earth passes between the sun and Saturn and all three are arranged in a nearly straight line -- occurs about every 12 months.
