The jobless rate was the lowest for the month of April in 15 years. The number of people who were out of a job in April totaled 421,000. The government statistics office attributed the increase in the number of people finding work to a recovery of the local economy.
The jobless rate for people with university degrees or higher decreased by 0.17 percentage points to 4.54 percent, the lowest figure for April in seven years. The average regular salary for the period from January to March also improved by 2.19% to NT$37,488 (US$1,250).
The statistics office said that the jobless rate could drop further in May, but might edge back up starting from June because of graduation season.
