Mainland Affairs Council Minister Andrew Hsia has announced that he will meet with his Chinese counterpart, Zhang Zhijun, by the end of the month.
Hsia made the announcement on Thursday. Hsia said that the meeting will take place on the Taiwanese-administered island of Kinmen, just off the coast of Mainland China.
Hsia said that the two sides will discuss issues directly affecting the people of Kinmen, including drinking water, seaborne garbage originating in China, and illegal fishing. But he also said that the two sides will discuss broader issues as well.
"We will also discuss some issues important to both sides, such as a trade in goods agreement and agreements regarding direct flights and aviation safety," said Hsia.
Hsia said the two sides are in the process of finalizing the date of the meeting and will make a public announcement as soon as possible.
