The American Institute in Taiwan said Monday that a senior US official for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum has arrived in Taiwan for a week-long visit. The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) is the de facto US embassy in Taiwan in the absence of formal diplomatic relations.
The official, Robert Wang, is scheduled to meet with Taiwanese officials and business leaders during his trip. AIT said that the discussions will center on this year's APEC agenda and other trade and economic issues.
On Tuesday, Wang will deliver a keynote address at an energy conference co-hosted by AIT and the Bureau of Energy.
The two-day conference, called "Next Generation Power in Asia", will focus on "smart" electrical grids, solar power, and wind power. Several dozen energy experts from the United States, Taiwan, and other regional economies are set to participate.
