Taiwan wants US visits to Taiwan reach 1 million in 2 years

The Tourism Bureau wants the number of visits from tourists from the United States to reach one million in two years.

In 2014, Taiwan welcomed 450,000 visits from the US. That marked an over 10% growth from the previous year. But that growth was lower than the 20% increase coming from Canada in the same period.

Taiwan’s tourism bureau has plans to advertise on New York buses and subways this summer. The bureau will lead a delegation to New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles to promote Taiwan’s tourism.

Taiwan has been actively promoting its tourism in the past ten years. The number of Chinese visitors has risen every year after Taiwan opened its doors to Chinese travelers in 2008. Taiwan saw 9.91 million visits from China last year. Chinese tourists top the list of Taiwan’s visitors, with people from Japan and Hong Kong in second and third place. Travelers coming from Southeast Asia are also on the rise.
