Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je says that the construction company that’s building the Taipei Dome – Farglory Land Development Co – can come up with its own solution, after safety concerns were raised.
A city safety inspection committee found that overbuilding in the area could hinder an evacuation in the event of an emergency. It recommended that either the Taipei Dome or a neighboring shopping mall be demolished.
Farglory has threatened the city, saying that the city would have to purchase the Taipei Dome complex if it forces the issue on demolishing one of the buildings.
Mayor Ko said on Sunday that the proposal for one of the buildings to be demolished is just one possible solution. He said that Farglory could propose its own solution, and that the two sides could sit down and discuss the matter at a later date.
Ko said that there’s no deadline for the two sides to come up with a solution, but that the situation was likely to be resolved within one month.
