AIIB participation can create more jobs: Finance minister
Finance Minister

Finance Minister Chang Sheng-ford says that more jobs will be created if Taiwan can join the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

The AIIB is a China-led development fund. So far, more than 40 countries have applied to participate in the fund. It has been seen as a counterweight to the Washington-based World Bank.

Speaking Friday, the finance minister said that Taiwan has already completed most necessary infrastructure projects such as the high speed rail and the highway system. He said that it is time for Taiwan to invest its funds, technology, and equipment to other places in order to create more business opportunities. Chang said he believes that the AIIB is a good investment target.

Chang said that Taiwan’s engineering, communications, utilities, transportation, and technology industries will all benefit from AIIB membership. The minister said he believes that Taiwan’s participation in the development fund will also contribute to the growth of Asia’s infrastructure, as Taiwan will bring in abundant capital, talent, and technology.
