Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Chairwoman Tsai Ing-wen is going to officially announce her presidential candidacy on Wednesday. After the DPP’s Executive Council finishes the nomination process, Tsai will hold a press conference to make the announcement.
Tsai is going to speak on the theme “Rediscover self-confidence, Light up Taiwan”. Party insiders said she would talk about responsibility and her vision for Taiwan.
On February 15, Tsai was the only party member to register her candidacy. Since then, she has been the party’s only nominee.
Tsai also ran on the DPP ticket for president in the 2012 election. She won 45.6% of the votes while President Ma Ying-jeou was elected with 51.6%.
The presidential election will be held on January 16, 2016. Ma will end his 2 terms in office next May.
