Legislature President Wang Jin-pyng says the primary purpose of his recent trip to Japan is to drum up support for a Taiwan-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA). He was speaking on Thursday morning at a press conference in Japan before returning to Taiwan later in the day.
Wang said that both the Japan-ROC Diet Members’ Consultative Council and Diet member Nobuo Kishi have voiced support for an EPA between Taiwan and Japan.
Wang said he also asked for Japan’s support in Taiwan’s bid to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership. He said that if Taiwan were to join the two trade pacts and conclude an EPA with Japan, the country would gain a competitive edge in the global market.
