Army officer and celebrity to be probed for visit to helicopter base
It's no laughing matter

Prosecutors have ordered a probe into a military officer who brought a local celebrity to visit an army base.

Lieutenant Colonel Lao Nai-cheng, deputy head of a helicopter squadron, brought local celebrity Janet Lee and her family to an army helicopter base on Sunday. The unauthorized visit came to light after Lee posted photographs she took of the cockpit of an Apache attack helicopter on social media. The four photographs that she posted included two showing her sitting in the cockpit.

Lee publicly apologized Thursday and Lao was reprimanded by his unit the same day. On Friday five other high-ranking military officers were disciplined as well.

The military has always kept the media from the attack helicopters’ dashboards, citing national security concerns.

The Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office started an investigation at the army base on Friday. It is set to summon Lao and Lee for questioning.
