Taipei mayor approval rating at over 80%: university survey
In office 100 days

More than 80 percent of Taipei residents approve of Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je after his first 100 days in office. That’s according to a survey conducted by Ming Chuan University published on Tuesday.

More than 79% said they had confidence in his performance in the future. Taipei residents also said Ko's top priorities should be social welfare, fairness and justice, the economy, social order and traffic.

But only 21% said they approve of Ko running in the 2016 presidential election.

Taipei City Councilor Wu Hsi-yao of the Democratic Progressive Party said Ko’s high approval rating shows the mayor is living up to voters’ expectations. Ko is also winning support by moving beyond bipartisan politics.

But Wu said Ko is still in his honeymoon period during which he has absolute say in the city's governance. Wu said it remains to be seen whether Ko can maintain his high approval rating once the city council begins its session in mid-April.
