Culture Minister Hung Meng-chi says he hopes to leave a mark during his limited term in office.

Hung made the comments during an interview with RTI on Friday. He took office in January after his predecessor resigned.

Hung said he understands that his term may only last for just over a year because when the next president takes office next year, there will likely be a Cabinet reshuffle.

Hung said some of the key works that he wants to do include promoting Taiwanese visual artists overseas, and encouraging the use of technology in cultural industries. He also said his ministry will help train professionals in cultural asset management by encouraging cooperation between the industry and the academia.

Meanwhile, Hung said Taiwan should ditch a “developmentalist” mentality. He also said the recent decision to preserve the Taipei Railway Workshop in its entirety provides a good opportunity for all sectors of society to think about the preservation and re-use of national cultural heritage sites.
