The ASUS Foundation, a charitable organization affiliated with Taiwanese computer maker ASUS, has donated a number of notebook computers to a school in northern Guatemala.
Taiwan’s ambassador to Guatemala, Adolfo Sun, visited the school in the department of Alta Verapaz on Tuesday, local time. He was accompanied by a representative from the ASUS Foundation.
All of the school’s 317 students, as well as teachers and parents, were on hand to welcome the visitors. They held up a banner reading “Thank you, Taiwan” in Chinese.
Ambassador Adolfo Sun said that Guatemala’s indigenous affairs council had asked The ASUS Foundation to provide ten notebook computers to students in indigenous areas around the country.
Sun said the computer donation program aims to increase the academic performance of disadvantaged students in remote areas and expand their horizons.
